A renowned Croatian punk musician and his wife were attacked in the early hours of Friday in the central part of Pula after confronting a group of young men over their littering behavior. The incident occurred around midnight near a market in the street Sergijevaca, according to police reports and statements from the victim, Saša Milovanović, lead singer of the legendary Pula punk band KUD Idijoti. Milovanović described being beaten with fists and feet, sustaining bruises, abrasions, and a swollen wrist. His wife, Martina, was also targeted during the assault before neighbors intervened and forced the attackers to flee. Milovanović recounted how he had noticed the group earlier while setting up his stand in the street, selling CDs and merchandise. He said this was not the first time he had witnessed such behavior, adding that passersby often threw away neatly packed waste in front of shops. According to him, the group came from the direction of the Forum and began kicking boxes and trash along the street. His wife was the first to approach them, warning them against such conduct. She told them it was unacceptable to behave this way in someone else's country on vacation. Milovanović then approached the group himself, telling them to stop or he would call the police. Instead of calming down, the group allegedly reacted violently. Milovanović said he did not expect such a reaction and was caught off guard. He described being struck repeatedly with hands and feet, leaving him covered in bruises and cuts. His shirt was torn completely apart, and his wrist swelled significantly. When the police arrived, he looked severely injured. The attackers initially fled the scene but returned shortly afterward, continuing the attack on both him and his wife. They defended themselves as best they could until neighbors emerged from their homes, prompting the assailants to escape once more. The police confirmed receiving a report about the incident, stating that several male individuals were throwing objects into bins and shouting loudly. After being warned by a 63-year-old man, the suspects physically assaulted him with punches and kicks. In an attempt to protect her husband, Milovanović’s wife stepped in and was also attacked. The perpetrators then fled the scene, and the police have launched a criminal investigation to determine all circumstances surrounding the incident. According to Milovanović, the street Sergijevaca is equipped with surveillance cameras, which he believes could help identify the attackers. He speculated that the assailants might be British citizens frustrated by the performance of their national football team. He estimated there were five or six individuals involved, all significantly larger than himself. Despite suffering injuries, Milovanović chose not to go to the hospital and instead relied on the police report. He expressed hope that the authorities would succeed in identifying the perpetrators. Police investigators have been examining vehicles in the area and reportedly confiscated one traveling at 80 kilometers per hour. The ongoing investigation aims to gather evidence and determine the identities of those responsible for the attack. As of now, no arrests have been made, and the case remains under active review.
