The Slovenian Food Safety Authority has initiated a recall of a chocolate product due to the presence of an unauthorized additive. The affected item is a 180-gram package of Torras cocoa preparation produced by Chocolates Torras SA. Consumers have been advised not to consume the product and instead dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase. The recall was triggered after the authority received information through the EU Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF) regarding the distribution of the product in Slovenia. The discovery of maltitol (E965), an unapproved additive, led to immediate action to ensure consumer safety. The recall follows a broader initiative by the Consumer Association of Slovenia (ZPS), which announced the withdrawal of three food products from the market. In addition to the Torras cocoa product, ZPS identified two other items requiring removal. One is sesame seeds produced by Daco France under the brand name Daco Bello, sold in E. Leclerc stores. These were found to contain excessive levels of chlorpyrifos-ethyl, a pesticide residue beyond permissible limits. Consumers are urged to stop using the product, discard it, or return it to the store where it was purchased for a refund. Another recalled product is a tea made from macha leaves, manufactured by Fujian Blue Lake Foods in China. This item is distributed and sold in Asia Supermarket stores. Testing revealed elevated levels of aluminum content in the powdered tea, prompting its removal from shelves. The association advises consumers to throw away the product or return it to the point of sale. The Torras cocoa product, specifically the 180-gram package, was identified as containing maltitol, an artificial sweetener typically used in confectionery and beverages. However, its inclusion in this particular product appears to violate regulatory standards. Maltitol is permitted in certain foods but must adhere to strict guidelines regarding usage and labeling. The presence of the additive in Torras cocoa suggests either improper formulation or contamination during production or packaging. ZPS emphasized the importance of consumer awareness and compliance with the recall instructions. The association recommended that individuals who have purchased any of these products check their inventory and take appropriate measures to ensure they are not consumed. Retailers were instructed to remove the affected products from their shelves immediately and provide refunds to customers upon request. The Food Safety Authority, along with ZPS, has been working closely with manufacturers and distributors to address the issue. Investigations into the root causes of the contamination or mislabeling are ongoing. Officials have not yet disclosed whether similar issues exist in other products from the same producers.
