In Abuja, the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) has declared itself fully prepared for a nationwide campaign aimed at reviewing the national minimum wage. Speaking during the commissioning ceremony of the Comrade Godwin Abumisi Pensioners Legacy House and Multipurpose Hall, NLC President Comrade Joe Ajaero emphasized that the organization is poised for a major national struggle over the issue. This declaration comes amid growing concerns over the financial insecurity faced by both current workers and retired individuals. Ajaero highlighted the need for a comprehensive review of the national minimum wage, stating that discussions on worker welfare must include the well-being of retirees. He underscored that the Nigeria Union of Pensioners (NUP), a key affiliate of the NLC, is integral to the labor movement’s agenda. According to him, the welfare of pensioners is equally vital and must be addressed alongside ongoing efforts to improve conditions for active workers.
