The Milan prosecutors have formally requested judicial proceedings against 74 individuals, including Stefano Speroni, head of legal affairs at Eni, and Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, heir to the Luxottica Group. The request was filed by prosecutors Eugenio Fusco and Francesco De Tommasi with the court’s judge presiding over preliminary hearings. This marks the second major phase of the ongoing Equalize investigation into alleged illegal document manipulation. It follows a previous request in April targeting initial suspects, among them former Fondazione Fiera president Enrico Pazzali. The new batch includes figures from multiple sectors, ranging from corporate executives to legal professionals and private individuals. Among the newly implicated is Speroni, who faces three charges related to the illicit handling of documents concerning Francesco Mazzagatti, a Calabrian entrepreneur previously linked to Eni. Prosecutors allege he committed unauthorized access to computer systems, defamation, and making false statements to his defense attorney. These charges are shared with Annunziatino Romeo, an ex-pentito associated with the ‘ndrangheta mafia in Platì, currently undergoing trial under ordinary procedure for attempted extortion using mafia methods. As a senior figure within Eni, Speroni's offenses are considered sufficient grounds for the company to face administrative liability under Law No. 231, though the firm itself has not been named in the current request and remains under investigation. Leonardo Maria Del Vecchio, son of the Luxottica founder, has been charged with three counts of unauthorized access to computer systems. His status has shifted from suspect to defendant pending an upcoming preliminary hearing. He will appear alongside CEO Marco Tallarico of LMDV and Mario Cella, his former assistant accused of spying on Del Vecchio Jr. Additionally, former security manager Stefano Orsini of Luxottica is facing charges of unauthorized access to data regarding two employees, along with another executive. The legal community is also under scrutiny. Three lawyers from the international law firm Dentons, which represents Speroni and Eni, have been included in the indictment. They include Pasquale Annicchiarico, Sara Biglieri (formerly of Dentons), and Matteo Danieli. Documents reveal that Annicchiarico participated in a shared chat with former police officer Carmine Gallo, one of the founders of Equalize. All three legal professionals face six charges, spanning unauthorized system access to disclosure of confidential information. One charge overlaps with Speroni’s case, specifically relating to the documentation on Mazzagatti. Other notable names appearing in the list of victims include Giacomo Tortu, brother of sprinter Marcel Jacobs, accused of unauthorized access to communications involving Jacobs. The number of parties affected by this latest round of charges exceeds 800, surpassing the previous count of 600, although many names overlap. Among these are actor Ricky Tognazzi, former VIP agent Fabrizio Corona, and journalist Selvaggia Lucarelli. The investigation continues to expand, implicating a wide array of individuals across different professional backgrounds. With the preliminary hearing set to take place, the legal process moves forward, potentially leading to further developments in the case.
