At a plenary session of the European Union's bishops' conferences in Brussels, Bishop Anton Jamnik met with Vyacheslav Grynevych, director of Caritas Ukraine. Grynevych expressed gratitude to Slovenian Caritas and all who strive to assist this suffering country, which has become a victim of Russian aggression. He urged the gathered bishops not to forget Ukraine. Grynevych outlined the extremely difficult conditions in Ukraine, which have worsened recently due to the failure of internet connections that would inform civilians and soldiers about attacks by Russian drones and rockets. Infrastructure has been destroyed, basic necessities are lacking, and everyone fears winter because of uncertainty over heating. The situation in Ukraine is described as a result of agreements among global powers, where money, power, and authority play the main roles. Grynevych invited Bishop Jamnik to visit Kyiv to meet people and gain a detailed understanding of the circumstances there. During the meeting, Grynevych mentioned several clergy members who personally bring aid to Ukraine, including Clemens Svetelj, Jurate Ferleža, and Jana Lampe, who specifically supports Ukraine through Slovenian Caritas. Grynevych emphasized that many families, relatives, and friends affected by the war need more than just material assistance, they require compassion, closeness, conversation, and often professional help. His message was a reminder for all Europeans not to remain indifferent and to do what they can to ease the suffering of Ukrainian people. Bishop Jamnik was invited to visit Kyiv to get a firsthand look at the situation and connect directly with those affected.
