Russia has reported new attacks on tankers attributed to Ukraine, according to statements made by regional officials. The governor of the southern Russian region of Rostov, Yuriy Slyusar, announced via Telegram that two tankers in the Black Sea were set ablaze during a drone strike carried out by Ukrainian forces. According to Slyusar, the crews of both vessels had been safely evacuated, and while fires broke out on both ships, one fire was quickly extinguished. This incident follows previous reports of Ukrainian strikes targeting Russian tankers in the region, which Moscow claims are part of its efforts to circumvent Western sanctions.

In addition to the attacks on the tankers, authorities in the northwestern region of Tver reported that an oil depot caught fire after being struck by a drone. Local governor Vitaliy Korolyov stated that the blaze was under control. At the same time, another oil depot in the southern Russian region of Stavropol also went up in flames following a reported Ukrainian attack. Russia's Defense Ministry confirmed that 73 Ukrainian drones had been intercepted overnight, indicating ongoing aerial activity in the area.

The situation comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Iran. U.S. military forces have launched fresh attacks against Iranian targets, marking the second such assault within 24 hours. According to the U.S. Central Command, these strikes aimed to weaken Iran’s ability to threaten freedom of navigation in the Strait of Hormuz. President Donald Trump had previously declared the ceasefire agreement with Iran null and void, stating that the attacks were necessary to respond to recent threats posed by Iran.

According to Iranian government reports, the latest U.S. attacks resulted in at least 14 deaths and injured 78 others over the past two days. Some of the wounded remain hospitalized. The attacks reportedly targeted five provinces, including Ahvaz, where three individuals lost their lives in an attack near the city’s outskirts. Additional casualties were reported in other areas affected by the strikes.

Iranian state media reported damage to buildings at the airport in the city of Iranshahr, with a firefighter killed in the process. A railway bridge in the northeastern province of Golestan was also hit, as noted by the state broadcaster Irib. According to Press TV, this marked the first U.S. attack in the region since the start of the ceasefire in April. The Revolutionary Guard claimed another bridge was also struck. Tehran called upon the UN Security Council to take immediate action and warned Washington about potential consequences.

Amid these developments, Iran held mourning ceremonies for Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, the country's former supreme leader, who passed away recently. These ceremonies took place in cities such as Tehran, Qom, and in Iraqi cities like Najaf and Karbala. However, the renewed hostilities between the U.S. and Iran occurred simultaneously with these events, adding further complexity to the geopolitical landscape.

In response to the U.S. attacks, Iran launched counterstrikes. Local military sources reported that Kuwait came under fire, with the air defense system repelling enemy rocket and drone attacks. Similar alerts were issued in Bahrain, where residents were urged to seek shelter and remain calm. The interior ministry confirmed that the attacks had been thwarted, though no further details were immediately available.

Both Bahrain and Kuwait, along with several other Gulf states, have frequently faced Iranian missile and drone attacks due to their hosting of U.S. military bases located just a few hundred kilometers away. The renewed conflict appears to be intensifying, with both sides showing no signs of backing down despite the ongoing mourning period for Khamenei.

U.S. officials have justified the attacks as necessary measures to protect maritime security in the Strait of Hormuz. NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte supported the actions, calling them essential given Iran's alleged violation of the ceasefire terms. Meanwhile, the Iranian leadership has vowed to take decisive steps to safeguard national interests and security, signaling continued escalation unless a resolution is reached.
