The animal, who has lived at the sanctuary for five years, was last seen returning to his enclosure on Saturday evening, but did not return as usual. Concerns have grown over the past three days, with temperatures recently reaching unusually high levels, raising fears that Muschio might have suffered a health issue within the sanctuary grounds. Despite extensive searches conducted by volunteers using foot patrols and thermal drones, no trace of the goat has been found so far. This absence has led to new concerns that Muschio may have exited the sanctuary area unintentionally. The Chico Mendes sanctuary, which spans approximately 16 hectares, serves as a refuge for animals rescued from exploitation, abuse, or abandonment. It provides them with care, protection, and the opportunity to live freely according to their natural behaviors. Muschio, known as part of the family by those who care for him, has become deeply integrated into the daily life of the sanctuary. His disappearance has prompted emotional responses from the team, who continue to work tirelessly to locate him. The sanctuary has issued a public appeal, urging anyone who has seen Muschio or possesses relevant information, particularly in the areas of Lastra a Signa and other parts of the province of Florence, to contact them immediately. Even seemingly minor clues could prove crucial in finding the goat. The terrain surrounding the sanctuary, shaped by recent flooding, includes dense woodlands and areas prone to sudden changes due to weather conditions. These factors contribute to the difficulty of maintaining secure boundaries. Volunteers regularly inspect the perimeter, yet the vast size of the land makes it possible for gaps to appear following heavy rains or storms. During such inspections, damaged sections of fencing were discovered, increasing the likelihood that Muschio may have escaped through one of these openings. This possibility has intensified the search efforts beyond the immediate confines of the sanctuary. On Sunday, a local resident reported seeing a large animal resembling Muschio near Villa Caruso, located in Lastra a Signa. This sighting reignited hope among the volunteers, prompting them to investigate the area further. However, the challenging landscape made this task difficult. A nearby homeowner initially mistook the animal for a smaller goat, leading to confusion. Nevertheless, the person who made the initial report confirmed that they had indeed seen a male goat with long horns, matching Muschio’s description. Despite this lead, subsequent checks in the area yielded no confirmation of the animal's presence. Further efforts have included distributing flyers and engaging with residents in the vicinity of Villa Caruso to gather more information. While some reports have emerged, none have conclusively identified Muschio. On Monday, another report came in from Signa, but after verification, it was determined not to be related to the missing goat. As a result, volunteers returned to the area around Villa Caruso to continue their search, reinforcing their commitment to locating Muschio before he becomes lost to the wild.
