The 15th edition of the Šibenik Dance Festival, taking place from July 13 to 18, will once again transform Šibenik into an international center for contemporary dance. This year marks the first time the festival expands beyond the city limits, reaching Vodice as well. The event features top artists, choreographers, and dancers from around the world, reinforcing the festival’s reputation as one of the most significant dance events in the region. Over the past 15 years, the festival has grown into a platform for artistic exchange, cultural connection, and international collaboration. Deputy Mayor Danijel Mileta emphasized the festival’s importance to Šibenik’s cultural identity, noting its role in positioning the city on the global dance scene. The theme for this year, 'When words lose power, art speaks louder,' reflects the need for new forms of understanding and connection. The festival opens officially on July 13 at Republic Square in front of St. Jacob’s Cathedral with performances by Turkish-Austrian artist Ziye Azazi and Portuguese performer Caroline Batalha. Additional performances will take place throughout the week at various locations including the Fortress of Baron.
