He was a member of the Central Board of HND and a member of the Board of the Association for the Protection of Journalists’ Copyright Rights (DZNAP). He advocated for the inclusion of photojournalists in the work of the association and contributed to obtaining licenses that protect their intellectual property rights. In a statement, HND President Hrvoje Zovko expressed deep sorrow over the loss of both Ćužić and his wife. “It is difficult to find words when a family suffers such pain in such a short time,” he said. “Marija’s husband has gone, and now Mario. We have known each other since childhood, and for years he was an active member of our organization. He will remain in the good memory of all who knew him.” The Croatian Tennis Association also paid tribute to Ćužić, noting that some of his photographs were “true masterpieces” and that he was “a good spirit representing the team.” Ćužić was awarded the Order of the Croatian Coat of Arms, a recognition of his service and contributions to the country.
