The Ministry of Health announced today that the Public Assistance Hospital Posta Central achieved a score of 91.1% in its management evaluation, leading all public hospitals in performance. The results were presented by Health Minister May Chomali and Deputy Secretary Julio Montt during a press briefing. The assessment, conducted using the Balanced Score Card tool with 29 indicators, requires a minimum compliance rate of 75%. Out of the 62 self-managed facilities in the network, 26 exceeded this threshold, while 15 fell within the 60–75% range. The remaining 21 scored below 60%, meaning more than half of the hospitals failed to meet the baseline standard. According to Montt, the purpose of these evaluations is to identify areas needing support and to assist teams through the Subsecretariat of Assistance Networks in improving their performance, ultimately benefiting patients. He highlighted the exceptional achievement of the Posta Central team, which surpassed the required benchmark significantly. The hospital’s success was noted as a result of sustained efforts over several years, rather than a sudden improvement. Minister Chomali emphasized that since 2020, Posta Central has consistently met or exceeded expectations, surpassing the 75% target. She described this as not a coincidence but the outcome of continuous, dedicated work. She praised the leadership of the hospital's directors, clinical staff, purchasing managers, and other administrative personnel, stating that without the collective effort of these groups, the government could not have achieved such results. She expressed gratitude to both the executive and clinical teams, noting that without their contributions, the hospital’s achievements would not have been possible. The hospital’s director explained that the high score reflects long-term commitment to process improvements aimed at better serving the community. He stated that the results are not due to actions taken in just one year, but rather the result of a decade-long focus on efficiency and quality. He emphasized that public hospitals must serve the citizens who rely on them, ensuring efficient use of public resources and maintaining high standards of care. This includes not only clinical excellence but also administrative efficiency, infrastructure maintenance, citizen participation, and legal processes, all contributing to improved outcomes. During the pandemic, the hospital was heavily tested, being regarded as the central point for managing the crisis. This period forced the institution to refine internal processes, procurement systems, and governance structures. The director acknowledged that the challenges posed by the pandemic led to necessary changes, and the subsequent challenge was to sustain these improvements. He noted that the hospital has maintained consistent performance throughout the years, attributing this stability to the dedication of its staff. Looking ahead, the hospital aims to continue building on its successes, ensuring that the gains made during the pandemic are preserved and further enhanced. The director stressed the importance of ongoing collaboration among all levels of the organization to maintain and improve service delivery. The hospital plans to keep refining its operations, focusing on both clinical and administrative efficiency, to ensure continued benefits for the community it serves.
