A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the murder of his 36-year-old partner in the village of Vuhred in Slovenia. The suspect, identified as Amir Uzunović, was captured after fleeing the scene and crossing the Drava River. Police confirmed the arrest during a press conference held by the Celje police station, stating that Uzunović did not resist arrest following the completion of initial investigative procedures. He will be presented to a court on charges of attempted murder. The incident occurred shortly before midnight when police were alerted to a criminal act in Vuhred. Officers quickly arrived at the scene, secured the area, and initiated efforts to locate the perpetrator. According to Boštjan Kavc, who led the search operation, the suspect fled on foot in an unknown direction immediately after the crime. Authorities promptly informed Croatian and Austrian security services and issued a nationwide alert for Uzunović's capture. Police deployed all available patrol units to conduct intensive searches for the fugitive. These included canine units, drones, horseback riders, and helicopter crews. At one point, more than 30 officers were actively searching the area, while between 10 and 15 investigators worked continuously throughout the day and night. Despite these efforts, Uzunović managed to evade detection initially. According to Kavc, the terrain around the Drava River posed significant challenges for the search teams. Described as steep, dangerous, and impassable, the area provided ample opportunity for the suspect to hide or escape. Uzunović reportedly crossed the river soon after committing the crime, further complicating the investigation by erasing potential evidence trails. Despite these obstacles, police continued their search through the day and into the night. Around 9 p.m., they received reports indicating that Uzunović might have moved near a cemetery in the vicinity of Vuzenica. This information prompted immediate verification efforts involving water rescue teams, drone operators, and other specialized units. However, the suspect remained elusive at this stage. Further developments came late in the evening when police received multiple calls from residents reporting sightings of Uzunović near a bridge in Vuhred or boarding a bus heading towards Mute. Although these leads were investigated, the suspect was still not found. It wasn't until early in the morning that the breakthrough occurred. Police had anticipated that Uzunović might return to the scene of the crime, prompting them to maintain a constant presence in the area. Their patience paid off when officers spotted a person matching the suspect’s description near the entrance of a residential block close to the crime scene. They apprehended him there without resistance. Authorities have yet to find the knife used in the attack, though police indicated that the motive appears to be clear. The case continues to unfold with further investigations planned to determine the exact circumstances surrounding the murder.
