Nearly 400 new cameras to monitor Greater Athens traffic lights

Greater Athens regional authorities have completed the installation of 388 new traffic cameras at 100 intersections to monitor and penalize drivers who run red lights. The Italian-made cameras are installed on new pylons and are designed to capture the rear of vehicles as they approach traffic signals. These cameras activate when the light turns red, and work crews are marking white lines in front of the signals. Vehicles crossing these lines after the light changes to red will be photographed and fined. The system will be implemented gradually, with the first 100 cameras expected to be operational by August. Data collected will be reviewed by traffic police before any fines are issued, either via phone notifications or through the gov.gr platform.
