A record-breaking climb was achieved during the recent cycling event held near Goriške Opekarnice in Renče, Slovenia. The race saw 38 participants from 16 clubs in Slovenia and Italy, primarily consisting of recreational cyclists and veterans. Among them, Elia Carta of the Italian club Cottur set the fastest time, completing the ascent with a time of 20 minutes and 10 seconds. This achievement marked a notable performance on the 970-meter-long incline of Trstelj, which required overcoming a vertical difference of 514 meters. Silver medalist Žiga Grošelj from Vipava, representing Izvira, finished in 20 minutes and 27 seconds, while bronze went to Aljaž Trenta from Šempeter, who completed the course in 20 minutes and 32 seconds. In the women's category, Teja Gulič from KD Brda, Dobrava, claimed victory with a time of 24 minutes and 32 seconds, significantly ahead of other competitors. She left behind many male participants. Sare Stopar from Vipava secured silver, finishing in approximately 28 minutes and 35 seconds. Janica Pirih from Triatlonski klub Trisport, Kamnik, took home the bronze with a time of 30 minutes and 41 seconds. Special recognition was given to the oldest participant, 81-year-old Italian cyclist Sergio Zuccon, who managed a time of 47 minutes and 18 seconds, ensuring he did not finish last. His participation highlighted the spirit of endurance and dedication among the athletes. The next planned road cycling event on the Primorska region will take place on the climb up Široko. Organized by the Cycling Club Soča from Kobarid, this event will be part of the Slovenian championship for recreational cyclists and veterans. Participants starting from the railway station at Most na Soči will ascend through Banjska Planota to reach the 755-meter-high summit of Široko.
