The 11th Belt and Road Summit, co-hosted by the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government and the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC), will take place from 9 to 10 September at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai. The summit aims to explore new cross-regional opportunities in trade, investment and development, with a particular emphasis on cooperation with ASEAN, Central Asia and the Middle East. The event’s theme, Advancing High-quality Development - Embarking on a New Journey, reflects the ongoing efforts to deepen economic ties between Hong Kong and Belt and Road countries. Over the past decade, Hong Kong has played a central role in facilitating dialogue and collaboration between governments and business leaders from participating nations. This year’s summit will include nearly 100 distinguished policymakers and business leaders who will share insights into emerging trends and opportunities. The summit will also feature new thematic showcases, business matching activities and networking opportunities designed to enhance cooperation and investment. Hong Kong continues to serve as a vital bridge between the Chinese mainland and the global economy, offering a strategic platform for enterprises seeking access to international markets. A key initiative introduced this year is the GoGlobal Chapter, which includes a dedicated GoGlobal Connect Zone aimed at supporting enterprises expanding internationally. This zone will showcase professional services solutions across multiple industries and offer direct assistance to companies looking to establish operations abroad. Additionally, the summit will host a GoGlobal Business Study Mission to Nansha, Guangzhou, allowing participants to gain firsthand experience of China’s growing economic zones. These measures underscore Hong Kong’s evolving role as a ‘superconnector’ and ‘super value-adder’ in global trade and investment. In preparation for the summit, the HKTDC and the Department of Justice launched the Collaborate2Win campaign from 24 to 28 August. This initiative, focused on promoting Hong Kong’s professional services sector, included a high-level delegation visit to Xinjiang, Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan. Led by Paul Lam, Secretary for Justice of the HKSAR Government, the delegation engaged in business exchanges, site visits and thematic seminars to highlight Hong Kong’s strengths in legal, financial and trade services. The campaign builds upon previous efforts, including the Chief Executive’s earlier visit to Central Asia in June, aiming to strengthen ties and explore new partnership opportunities. One of the highlights of the Collaborate2Win campaign was a seminar held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, on 26 August. During the session, Paul Lam emphasized Hong Kong’s position as a leading common law jurisdiction and its capacity to support Kazakhstan’s economic growth. He noted that Hong Kong’s unique status as a financial hub provides it with a distinct advantage in fostering bilateral cooperation. Anna Cheung, associate executive director of the HKTDC, reiterated Hong Kong’s commitment to promoting global trade and investment through platforms such as the Belt and Road Summit. She highlighted the importance of leveraging Kazakhstan’s role as a gateway to Central Asia and Hong Kong’s ability to connect the mainland with the broader world. Looking ahead, the 11th Belt and Road Summit is expected to attract a diverse group of attendees, including government officials, business leaders and representatives from professional services organizations. The event will emphasize collaboration, business matching and the formation of new partnerships, with a specific focus on the Central Asian market. The summit will continue to build on existing relationships and expand Hong Kong’s influence in shaping future economic strategies across the region.
