Ashvin Lakkaraju, CEO of Cricket Switzerland, described the occasion as “a historical moment” for the organization. Lakkaraju noted that attracting foreign athletes to Switzerland has always been challenging, making the home tournament an essential tool for increasing exposure. Many of the team members hail from countries where cricket enjoys greater popularity, such as India, England, and Australia. To qualify for representation in the Swiss team, players must meet specific criteria set by the International Cricket Council (ICC). Meghna Rajan, one of the youngest talents in the squad, exemplifies this trend. At just 17, she moved to England to play with a youth team in Nottingham. Her goal is to become a professional player within two to three years, reflecting the ambitions of many in the team. With the sport set to debut at the 2028 Summer Games in Los Angeles, Kuenburg sees this as a logical evolution.
