Democrats have launched an investigation into the connections between convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein and foreign governments, according to a letter sent by Rep. Jamie Raskin, the top Democrat on the House Judiciary Committee. Raskin demanded records related to Epstein’s alleged activities as an unregistered foreign agent, citing newly released documents that suggest he attempted to act as an intermediary for several countries, including Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Israel, and Russia. The inquiry centers on evidence indicating Epstein may have engaged in undisclosed diplomatic efforts on behalf of foreign powers while maintaining close ties with former President Donald Trump. According to the letter, Epstein appears to have pitched himself to Saudi Arabia as a “Financial Confidant” in communications dated back to 2017, offering to represent the kingdom’s interests. Raskin noted that Epstein’s “close relationship” with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman became evident in these exchanges. Additionally, the documents suggest Epstein may have advised the Kuwaiti emir on matters related to Trump, with one message referencing “much to do around the Trump trip” and asking what “concrete” actions the emir wished to see occur during the visit. Epstein also allegedly played a role in facilitating diplomatic discussions between the United States, Russia, and Middle Eastern nations. The letter claims he served as a “sherpa” for former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak, guiding him through U.S.-Russia-Middle East diplomacy. Furthermore, Epstein reportedly offered guidance to Russian officials, including the late United Nations representative Vitaly Churkin, who was described as having gained a deep understanding of Trump following their interactions. In a 2018 message, Epstein wrote that Churkin “understood Trump after our conversations,” suggesting a level of familiarity that could have influenced policy decisions. Raskin’s letter was directed to Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche, Secretary of State Marco Rubio, and Jay Clayton, the U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York. He emphasized that Epstein had never registered as a foreign agent under the Foreign Agents Registration Act (FARA), despite engaging in activities that appear to align with the law’s requirements. Raskin warned that Epstein’s relationships with foreign leaders posed a potential threat to national security, raising concerns over the information he might have shared with these governments. The White House responded to the allegations, with a spokesperson stating that President Trump had been “totally exonerated” on any issues related to Epstein. However, the Department of Justice has yet to comment on the specific requests made by Raskin. The committee member has set a deadline for the government to provide records linked to Epstein’s contacts with 19 nations, including Saudi Arabia, Israel, Kuwait, Russia, and Qatar, as well as entities designed to bypass federal registration requirements. This probe comes amid ongoing scrutiny of Epstein’s extensive network, which has led to further investigations and the collapse of several careers. As new information continues to emerge, the administration faces mounting pressure to disclose previously withheld records, potentially impacting both legal proceedings and public perception of the Trump administration.
