The Ministry of Transportation announced that toll collection on the Turbaco toll plaza, located in Bolívar department, will remain suspended for automobiles, buses, and two-axle trucks while the state administration of the corridor connecting Bolívar and Atlántico regions continues. The decision was made through Resolution 20263040027835 dated July 21, 2026, which maintains the suspension of tolls for vehicles classified under categories I, II, and IIE. The change follows the early termination of the concession agreement with Autopistas del Caribe, notified by the National Infrastructure Agency (ANI) in January 2026. With this process, the government has taken back control of the infrastructure while determining the continuation of necessary interventions along the route. Since July 22, 2026, management of the corridor has been transferred to the National Roads Institute (Invias) after the completion of the concession contract. Although toll collection remains suspended for private vehicles, public transport, and two-axle trucks, the resolution states that fees continue to apply for three to six axle vehicles categorized under III, IV, and V. For these vehicles, the toll rate is set at $15,900, which includes contributions to the Road Safety Fund (FOSEVI). This new pricing structure was communicated by the ministry. The shift in operation of the corridor comes amid political tensions over toll policies. President Gustavo Petro criticized the stance of the incoming Minister of Transportation, Elsa Noguera, highlighting ongoing disputes regarding transportation costs and public access. Noguera, however, clarified her position on motorcycle tolls, stating that they would be subject to the same fee structure as other motorized vehicles, though specific details were yet to be finalized. The Invias also informed that funds required for maintenance and improvements to the corridor have been included in the draft budget for 2027, which will be managed by the upcoming government. The entity emphasized its commitment to overseeing the section of the road and implementing measures to ensure the corridor's continued operation. The corridor serves strategic areas for mobility between Bolívar and Atlántico. The suspension of tolls for certain vehicle categories will remain in effect according to the resolution issued by the Ministry of Transportation, during the new phase of public administration of the road. As the government moves forward with its plans for the region’s infrastructure, the focus remains on ensuring efficient and safe travel conditions for all users.
