NIMHANS opens India’s first public sleep database for stroke patients

Researchers from NIMHANS and IIIT Hyderabad have created India's first public sleep database focused on stroke patients, called iSLEEPS. This dataset includes 100 overnight polysomnography recordings collected between 2018 and 2021, containing detailed annotations of sleep stages, respiratory events, and other clinical data. Published in Scientific Data, the database aims to address a lack of comprehensive sleep research specific to stroke patients, particularly in Asia. The study highlights that up to 80% of stroke patients suffer from sleep-disordered breathing, which can hinder recovery and increase the risk of another stroke if untreated. The dataset provides a valuable resource for global researchers working on sleep disorders related to stroke.
