A unique form of exercise known as Laughter Yoga has gained attention in Slovenia, with certified instructors emphasizing its physical and emotional benefits. The practice combines laughter exercises and breathing techniques designed to increase oxygen intake, leading to improved well-being, relaxation, and increased energy levels. According to Etijana Lesjak, a certified Laughter Yoga instructor, the method was developed over 30 years ago in India by a family physician who discovered that laughter could be triggered through specific exercises rather than relying solely on humor. Boža Božena Lesjak, an educator, writer, and certified Laughter Yoga instructor, explains that laughter is a natural human behavior that brings joy, happiness, and joy. However, she notes that as people grow older, they tend to laugh less due to increasing responsibilities, stress, and daily routines. Children, for instance, can laugh up to 300 times a day, while adults typically manage around 20 times. This discrepancy highlights the importance of reconnecting with one's inner child to experience genuine laughter, free from judgment or concern about how others perceive it. Laughter Yoga has spread globally, including in Slovenia, where it has been embraced by mother and daughter duo, both certified instructors. They have introduced the practice to local communities, including pioneers such as Simon Krebs, who have recognized its value. According to Lesjakova, the release of endorphins associated with laughter helps reduce stress hormones like cortisol, which can cause numerous health issues. As a result, individuals often feel better immediately after participating in these sessions. While laughing without reason might initially seem unusual, the initial hesitation quickly fades. Lesjakova points out that the brain does not distinguish significantly between spontaneous and intentional laughter, meaning that even forced laughter can transform into genuine laughter. Her book, titled "The Laughing Hero," serves as a mini-guide to Laughter Yoga, offering insights and practices that can be performed at home, in groups, among adults, or with children. The book, originally written as an educational picture story, has been translated into three foreign languages. Lesjakova and her daughter, both educators, share their knowledge and joy through workshops aimed at children, elderly individuals, and community groups. Their goal is to help people recognize the power of sincere laughter and its potential to enhance overall well-being. Through these efforts, they aim to foster a greater appreciation for the simple yet profound act of laughing, encouraging participants to embrace this natural expression of joy and connection.
