Xpeng has announced the launch of its new electric SUV, the L03, which will be available simultaneously in China and Europe. The global unveiling took place on July 16, 2026, in Munich, marking a strategic move into the European market. Pre-orders for the vehicle began in China on July 2, with plans to make the L03 available in 64 countries by year-end. The L03 represents Xpeng's first model designed for worldwide use. In China, it is known as the Mona L03, with “Mona” standing for “Made Of New AI.” In Europe, however, it will simply be marketed under the Xpeng brand. Markus Schrick, head of Xpeng’s Central Europe sales region, stated, “With the new Xpeng L03, we are offering a more compact and competitively priced entry-level model that supports our brand strengths. This new SUV-coupe offers a progressive and sporty design, high-quality comfort and safety features, and a powerful electric powertrain with excellent charging speed for its class.” Compact SUV The L03 is a coupe-style SUV measuring approximately 4.65 meters in length with a wheelbase of 2.85 meters. These dimensions are comparable to the Tesla Model Y and slightly smaller than the Xpeng G6. Standard equipment includes 18-inch wheels, with 20-inch wheels available as an option. Xpeng claims a relatively low drag coefficient of 0.228, contributing to improved aerodynamics. The exterior of the L03 features a minimalist cockpit equipped with an 8.8-inch instrument display and a 26.8-inch head-up display. At the center is a 15.6-inch touchscreen with a 2.5K resolution. Xpeng promises fully localized user interfaces and integration with the Google Voice Assistant. This feature is particularly important given the limited number of physical controls included in the vehicle’s design. Interior comforts include heated and massaging seats upon request, while passengers benefit from a glass roof, though it is fixed. The smallest Xpeng model offers a cargo space of 539 liters with an electric tailgate, expandable to 1640 liters when the rear seats are folded down. An additional 102-liter trunk space provides further storage capacity. Powertrain and performance The battery-electric variant with rear-wheel drive produces 183 kW of power and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds. It is equipped with lithium iron phosphate batteries rated at either 58.3 kWh or 71.2 kWh, providing ranges of 445 km or 520 km under WLTP conditions. The all-wheel-drive version, the L03 AWD Performance, adds a front-mounted motor delivering 285 kW and achieves a range of 440 km with the 71-kWh battery. It can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.7 seconds and is electronically limited to 180 km/h. Charging capabilities are another highlight, with the L03 operating on a 400-volt platform enabling a maximum charging rate of 238 kW. Xpeng claims a 20-minute charge from 10% to 80%, which it describes as “excellent for its class.” While competitors such as the Volkswagen ID.4 and ID.5, the Skoda Enyaq 60, and the Kia EV5 offer larger batteries and longer ranges, they generally provide slower charging speeds and higher price points. The Tesla Model Y, although slightly more expensive than the L03, matches its charging capability and offers a marginally greater range. Advanced driver assistance system At the heart of the L03’s computing setup is Xpeng’s Turing AI platform featuring a custom-developed AI chip. The Max version delivers 750 TOPS of processing power, while the Ultra SE variant uses two chips to achieve 1500 TOPS. The L03 is equipped with an advanced driver-assistance system based on a Vision-Language-Action architecture, enhancing its ability to interpret visual data and respond appropriately.
