Kiru Naidoo and Selvan Naidoo, both born in the Indian group area of Chatsworth, recounted the experiences of their families who were forcibly removed from Magazine Barracks on the Durban beachfront. This history mirrors the forced relocations of other communities, including District Six, Marabastad, and Sophiatown. Such stories highlight the deep-rooted impact of apartheid policies on Indian Africans and the enduring quest for justice and recognition. The commemorative event also featured descendants of prominent figures in the resistance movement, including RK and Swaminathan Gounden, Fatima and Dawood Seedat, and Dr Monty Naicker.
