Markram, who was the leading run-scorer for South Africa in the T20 World Cup earlier this year with 286 runs, expressed his desire to help the team achieve greater collective success. Despite his personal achievements, he emphasized the importance of securing a major white-ball trophy, particularly with the ODI World Cup set to be hosted domestically for the first time in 24 years. Speaking at the Sandton Convention Centre, Markram acknowledged the team's accomplishments while reflecting on his own journey. “I did some incredible things as a team. That's ultimately what you work for,” Markram stated. He admitted feeling that he had more to give personally, noting that frequent matches might have made it difficult to fully appreciate his contributions. It's going to be nice to play Test cricket in front of our own fans again.” He added that facing strong teams like Australia and England, along with the emerging pace attack from Bangladesh, would create exciting opportunities for the Proteas.
