'Vanishingly rare' copy of US Declaration of Independence discovered in the UK

A rare copy of the United States Declaration of Independence, believed to have been captured by British forces during the American Revolutionary War, was recently discovered at the UK's National Archives. The document was seized by the Royal Navy from the privateer ship Dalton in December 1776 and later preserved in British state records. This copy, considered one of the rarest versions of the Declaration, is part of a small number of surviving 'Dunlap broadsides' printed by John Dunlap, who produced approximately 200 copies. While the original signed version is housed in Washington, D.C., this UK-find highlights the transatlantic nature of the American Revolution's historical record.
