Uzbek participants take top prizes at regional Korean language contest

Uzbek participants dominated the 2026 International Korean Language Contest for Central Asia and Russia, winning first place in all three categories: teaching, middle/high school speech, and university speech. The contest, held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, involved 2,300 participants from four countries, with 15 advancing to the finals. Uzbek teacher Shahlohon Abdurmonova won the teaching contest with a creative lesson on Korean grammar. Students Khani Choy and Kumushoy Jumanazarova secured top spots in their respective speech categories. The Education Ministry noted rising interest in Korean language education in Central Asia, particularly in Uzbekistan, where the number of schools offering Korean classes more than doubled between 2023 and 2025. The ministry credited Uzbek government policies promoting second-language learning for this trend.
