These can include behavioral modification, desensitization training, calming products, pheromones, supplements, specialized diets, sprays, routines, leaving on dog television or music, and in some cases, medication. Dr. Hunt emphasized that finding the right approach can take time but is essential for the dog's well-being. Some owners also use comfort objects, known as "loveys," which can provide reassurance when the owner is away. These objects are often personalized with the owner's scent through methods like sleeping with them or storing them with clothing. However, not all dogs respond positively to loveys, and their effectiveness varies. Snow's case illustrates how individual dogs may develop unique coping mechanisms. While the use of a mannequin is not a common solution for separation anxiety, it demonstrates the adaptability of canine behavior. For Stephen and Donna, the accidental presence of the mannequin has become a positive change in Snow's routine. The mannequin now resides in a corner of the dining room, where Snow often rests.
