During testing, the vehicle exhibited a learning curve for new drivers due to the light clutch pedal, which made initial engagement challenging. Once underway, the clutch facilitated smooth gear changes, though the engine's characteristic three-pot rumble was noticeable. Highways offered commendable insulation against external noise, despite some wind and engine sounds at higher speeds. On a recent journey to the Magaliesberg area, including brief high-speed segments near the Cradle of Humankind, the Tiago performed adequately. However, rapid gear shifts occasionally led to over-revving, which could affect mechanical longevity. Steering felt slightly vague during tight turns, though it proved adequate for regular city driving. Ride quality was firm but not uncomfortable, aligning with the car's intended use. Fuel efficiency averaged 5.8 liters per 100 kilometers, slightly above the manufacturer's claim of 5.0 liters per 100 kilometers, though this was attributed to more aggressive driving conditions. Safety-wise, the Tiago received a four-star rating from Global NCAP in 2020, indicating a solid level of crash protection for its class. Overall, the Tiago stands as a competent choice for those seeking reliable, affordable transportation in the budget segment.
