Approximately three thousand liters of liquid chemical precursors were seized during the operation and subsequently destroyed. The operation was conducted jointly with the Federal Ministry of Public Prosecutions (FGR), according to the Mexican Navy (Semar). Naval personnel identified the installations while conducting surveillance patrols in El Terrero, as part of routine efforts to locate, neutralize, and destroy illegal labs, as well as eradicate illicit crops within their assigned operational area. During the operation, three clandestine laboratories were discovered. Inside them, officials found around 3,000 liters of liquid chemical precursors, including acetone, propylene glycol, alcohol, hydrochloric acid, denatured alcohol, toluene, and glycerin. These substances are commonly used in the synthesis of synthetic drugs such as fentanyl and methamphetamine. In addition to the chemicals, various accessories used in the production of synthetic drugs were found, including tanks, drums, tubs, gas masks, a hand truck, and other tools. The seized laboratories were destroyed on-site by navy personnel following established protocols, with the presence of FGR agents who initiated the corresponding investigation, according to a statement released by Semar. The destruction of these facilities prevented the materials from being used in the production of illegal substances, the navy added. The discovery follows increased security measures in northern Mexico, where synthetic drug production has become a growing concern. Authorities have been intensifying efforts to dismantle networks responsible for manufacturing and distributing synthetic narcotics, which have contributed to rising overdose deaths across the country. In recent months, law enforcement agencies have reported multiple seizures of precursor chemicals and laboratory equipment linked to organized crime groups operating in regions such as Sinaloa, Chihuahua, and Durango. These groups often operate in remote areas to avoid detection, using sophisticated methods to produce synthetic drugs that are highly addictive and difficult to trace back to their origins. The operation in El Terrero highlights the continued collaboration between military and judicial authorities in combating drug trafficking and related crimes. Similar joint operations have taken place in other parts of the country, leading to the seizure of large quantities of precursor chemicals and the dismantling of production sites. Local residents expressed relief at the removal of the laboratories, noting concerns over potential environmental contamination and public safety risks associated with the storage of hazardous chemicals. Officials emphasized that the destruction of the facilities would prevent further harm to the community and reduce the availability of synthetic drugs in the region. Authorities have not disclosed specific details about the criminal groups behind the laboratories, though they confirmed that investigations into the case are ongoing.
