PPC Group has expanded its presence in the European renewable energy sector by entering Poland’s rapidly growing renewable energy sources (RES) market. On Friday, the company finalized an agreement to include wind and photovoltaic projects totaling 277.3 megawatts (MW) in its RES portfolio. This move marks a key milestone in the implementation of PPC's new development strategic plan for 2026–2030, which outlines an ambitious €24 billion investment program aimed at nearly doubling the group’s installed capacity. The deal was reached with EDP Renewables Polska, a subsidiary of Portugal’s EDP Renováveis, which operates several renewable energy projects across the country. The acquisition of these assets aligns with PPC’s broader strategy to establish a unified regional clean energy platform spanning Greece, Central, and Southeastern Europe. By diversifying its geographic footprint, the company aims to reduce operational risks and enhance resilience against market fluctuations. The portfolio acquired by PPC consists of three wind farms located in the Ilza, Tomaszow, and Poturzyn regions, collectively providing a total capacity of 130.5 MW. In addition, the company has secured two photovoltaic (PV) farms in the Pakoslaw and Recz areas, contributing 44.9 MW to the portfolio. Two additional PV projects, each with a combined capacity of 101.9 MW, are currently under development and are projected to come online by 2029. These projects will employ the cable pooling method, allowing them to share existing wind farm infrastructure. This approach is expected to improve grid efficiency and minimize energy transmission losses. Poland has emerged as a leading destination for renewable energy investments in Europe, driven by its robust policy framework and rapid growth in the sector. Over the past decade, the country has achieved an average annual growth rate of more than 17% in RES capacity. With a target of generating over 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030, Poland is positioned to become a major hub for clean energy development in the region. The expansion into Poland represents a strategic shift for PPC, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable energy solutions. The company’s long-term vision includes leveraging the continent’s diverse geography to create a resilient and scalable clean energy platform. This initiative underscores the growing importance of cross-border collaboration in addressing climate change and meeting rising energy demands. As part of its investment program, PPC plans to continue exploring opportunities in other parts of Central and Eastern Europe. The success of this venture could serve as a model for future expansions, enabling the company to capitalize on the region’s untapped potential.
