A popular brand of crisps has been recalled after being found to contain undeclared ingredients that could pose a health risk. Lay’s Sour Cream & Dill Crisps, sold in 125g packets at Home Bargains stores across the UK, have been flagged for removal from sale following concerns over allergen labeling. The recall applies to all best before dates up to and including October 31, 2026. The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed that the product contains milk and wheat (gluten), neither of which are listed on the packaging. This omission makes the crisps potentially hazardous for individuals with allergies or intolerances to dairy products, wheat, or gluten, including those with coeliac disease. The agency warned that anyone who has purchased the affected product should avoid consuming it and instead return it to the store for a full refund. ASR Solutions Ltd, the company responsible for issuing the recall, stated that customers with known sensitivities to milk or wheat should refrain from eating the crisps. They emphasized that only the specified best before dates are impacted and urged consumers to verify their purchases against the affected batch codes. The firm also noted that it had contacted relevant allergy support organizations and would display recall notices in all Home Bargains locations. Consumers who have acquired the product are instructed to bring it back to the store where it was purchased for a complete refund. The company apologized for any disruption caused and reiterated its commitment to ensuring consumer safety. The FSA explained that such recalls occur when food items present a risk due to missing or incorrect allergy information. In such cases, the agency issues an Allergy Alert to inform the public and guide appropriate action. This is not the first instance of a crisp product facing a recall in recent months. Earlier this year, Doritos was also recalled for similar reasons. Specifically, 140g packs of Doritos Chilli Heatwave with batch code GBC 209 184C and a best before date of December 5, 2026, were found to possibly contain Tangy Cheese seasoning, which includes milk not listed on the label. The FSA advised individuals with dairy allergies or intolerances to avoid these products and return them to the point of purchase for a refund. In both cases, the FSA stressed the importance of accurate labeling and highlighted the role of regulatory bodies in safeguarding public health. For those affected by the Lay’s recall, the agency recommended contacting PepsiCo Consumer Care Line on 0800 274777 or visiting contact.pepsico.com/walkers for additional assistance. The recall is currently limited to England, Scotland, and Wales.
