In June, police arrested Sheldon Tracy-Stewart, 18, and Zara Jabbi, 19, charging them with multiple offenses related to the March shooting. However, these charges have yet to be tested in court. Since that initial incident, the consulate has maintained a visible police presence, reflecting concerns over ongoing threats. During the Monday morning attack, a police cruiser was stationed outside the consulate with its lights on, and two security personnel were inside the building at the time of the shooting. According to Barredo, investigators are treating the case with the utmost seriousness and are committed to identifying and bringing the perpetrator or perpetrators to justice. “We will approach this investigation with great seriousness,” he stated during a press briefing. “We will bring the people responsible for this to justice.” Mayor Olivia Chow condemned the attack as a “brazen attack” and expressed determination to pursue those responsible. “I want to say to the person or persons responsible, we will get you,” she said. The mayor emphasized the importance of ensuring public safety and maintaining confidence in law enforcement efforts. Barredo noted that while no direct link has been established between the consulate shootings and the bakery attacks, police are examining all possible avenues. “Investigators will follow the evidence to where it leads,” he said, emphasizing the need for a thorough and methodical approach to uncovering the motives behind these incidents.
