PM Narendra Modi on Saturday emphasized the importance of social media engagement with the youth, urging the newly appointed Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) national office-bearers to leverage digital platforms to deepen the party’s connection with young voters. During a nearly four-and-a-half-hour session at the BJP headquarters in New Delhi, Modi interacted with the 65-member team, which was formally introduced by BJP president Nitin Nabin on August 17. The meeting marked the first formal gathering of the new leadership since their appointment. Modi congratulated the office-bearers and encouraged them to maintain a consistent online presence to ensure the party’s messages resonate with the younger generation. The Prime Minister also engaged in informal conversations with the team over tea, allowing them to share insights and perspectives. A group photo was taken with the newly appointed officials, symbolizing unity and commitment. Later, Modi shared a meal with the team featuring millet-based dishes, adding a personal touch to the extensive interaction. The BJP is set to launch an intensified version of its “Yuva Samvad” initiative, designed to foster ongoing dialogue with young people. The plan includes targeted outreach programs aimed at individuals aged 14 and older, encompassing both Generation Z and Generation Alpha. Dedicated teams of senior leaders from across the country will be formed to spearhead these efforts. The Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha, a youth wing of the party, is tasked with organizing and mobilizing these groups, while former national office-bearers are expected to contribute significantly to the campaign. In addition to engaging with the new organizational team, Modi met separately with Nitin Nabin, BL Santosh, and Shivkumar. During his discussion with Nabin, the Prime Minister reviewed potential candidates for the BJP Parliamentary Board, with final selections anticipated shortly. The meeting also addressed preparations for upcoming Assembly elections, focusing on strengthening the party’s grassroots structure. Nabin is scheduled to lead another organisational review meeting on Sunday, bringing together state-level leaders to strategize for elections in Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab, and other states. Following the sessions, Modi posted on X, highlighting the value of fresh ideas and perspectives in reinforcing the party’s connection with the populace. The new team includes notable figures such as former Union minister Smriti Irani and RSS national executive member Ram Madhav, who have returned to influential roles within the party. Meanwhile, the BJP passed a resolution criticizing the Congress Working Committee’s decision to perform only the first two stanzas of the national song Vande Mataram, asserting that the party would not tolerate compromises on the song’s honor for political convenience. Separately, the BJP has faced scrutiny over its social media strategies, particularly in response to youth-led protests related to exam irregularities. While the party has sought to increase online visibility through initiatives like evaluating ministers' social media activity, critics argue that such measures prioritize digital engagement over substantive governance. Despite these efforts, the party continues to navigate challenges in maintaining relevance among younger demographics, reflecting broader shifts in political communication and public expectations.
