SloveniaThe project Čolnarna Zaka on Lake Bled has been awarded the Plečnik Award 2026 for Public Space, which is the highest national recognition for architectural achievements in Slovenia. The award was announced by the public institution Turizem Bled. The project, designed by a team of architects including Rok Oman, Špela Videčnik, Janez Martinčič, and others, involves the renovation of an existing boat house in Velika Zak. It serves as a covered docking area and shelter for two research boats used by the Agency for the Environment of the Republic of Slovenia to monitor water quality in the lake. The design preserves the structure and proportions of the original wooden boat house while incorporating elements like a roof made of wooden planks planted with local alpine flowers, allowing water to flow through layers of stone, gravel, sand, soil, and coconut fibers, demonstrating natural water filtration. The project emphasizes harmony between architecture, nature, sports, visitors, and the local community. This is not the first architectural recognition for the area, as similar projects on Bled have previously received awards.
