In Kranj have been offering summer activities for children, with a focus on intergenerational engagement and diverse recreational opportunities. On Friday, the program at the Medgeneracijski center included a guided walk through the city, allowing both children and grandparents to participate. The event was part of a broader initiative organized under the auspices of the local university, which has been running summer programs for several years. This year’s summer program, taking place throughout July, will see over 239 children participating across four locations. The Ljudska univerza Kranj, a key organizer, has scheduled eight hours of daily activities, spread across four sites. These include the Medgeneracijski center, where the program runs as part of the VGC Gorenjske+ project and is free of charge, and three primary schools, Janeza Puharja, Center, Stražišče, and Predoslje, where the municipality subsidizes the activities. According to Mateja Šmid, director of the Kranj Ljudska univerza, the number of participants this year is similar to previous years, though interest has been particularly high, with more children than available spots during peak times. The program includes a variety of creative and educational activities designed to provide quality leisure time and new experiences for children. Last week, at the Medgeneracijski center, children engaged in creative workshops and a guided tour of Kranj led by guide Janko Zupan. The guided tour was especially popular, as it allowed grandparents to join their grandchildren. Animatorka Lea Sitar Liberšar noted that all participants learned a great deal, highlighting the interactive nature of the activities. Other highlights included dance workshops and pancake baking, with participants expressing enthusiasm for the wide range of options offered. Children who participated in the program shared their positive experiences. Seven-year-old Luka Stojnić described how he enjoyed playing games and creating art, while seven-year-old Ela Bešič mentioned making new friends and enjoying the free play sessions. Similarly, six-year-old Livia Karničar and older child Maša Durić found the pancake-making and visit to Brda particularly enjoyable, noting they saw large fish and had ice cream. Kristjan Radojevič, another participant, expressed his satisfaction with the social interactions and the fun activities, saying he did not feel bored. Over the past weeks, children have visited the Šmarjetna mountain, a retirement home, the municipal library, fire services, the Gorenjski museum, a farm, and participated in sports games, swimming, and basic first aid training. This week's program includes activities such as comic creation, culinary workshops, Japanese culture exploration, and unlimited games. The Ljudska univerza has already conducted similar programs in Naklem and Šenčur, and will continue them in Preddvor from August 3rd to 7th. Some spots remain open, and participation for children from Preddvor is free of charge.
