On July 3, Olympic women's discus champion Valarie Sion won her event with a best throw of 68.64 meters at the Prefontaine Classic in Eugene, Oregon. Sion, formerly known as Valarie Allman, has been performing well after her 30-meet winning streak ended in March. Meanwhile, Olympic champion Ethan Katzberg set a world lead with a throw of 83.33 meters in the men's hammer. In other events, American Brandon Miller narrowly defeated 17-year-old Cooper Lutkenhaus in the 800m, while 2019 world champion Donavan Brazier placed third. Sandi Morris triumphed over longtime rival Katie Moon in the women's pole vault, and Jamaica's Dejanea Oakley won the women's 400m. Sweden's Wilma Nielsen claimed victory in the 1,500m. The Prefontaine Classic continues on Saturday.
