Luis Donaldo Colosio Riojas, senator representing the Citizens' Movement party, has ruled out making an early announcement regarding his potential candidacy for governor ahead of the 2027 elections. He stated he will wait until late 2026 before deciding whether to run for a state governorship, emphasizing that he wants to respect the electoral timelines established by law. Speaking during a press conference alongside federal deputy Irais Reyes de la Torre, Colosio Riojas dismissed suggestions that he might move forward with a campaign prematurely. “It’s not the right time,” he said, adding that he would make an official announcement once the appropriate moment arrives. The senator stressed that his ultimate goal is to help Mexico, stating that his path is rooted in the country itself. “I don’t want to jump ahead like others do,” he added. Colosio Riojas made similar remarks during a forum at the University of Sonora earlier this year. A student there asked him about criticism he faces for not residing in the state of Coahuila, should he decide to run for governor. In response, he questioned why critics had not taken action themselves. “They’ve lived their whole lives in the state, what are they waiting for to fix it?” he asked. The senator's comments sparked enthusiastic reactions from students, who reportedly shouted “Governor, governor!” during the event. Some observers interpreted these responses as signs that a campaign could be on the horizon. However, Colosio Riojas has yet to confirm such plans, maintaining that any decision will come later. President Claudia Sheinbaum addressed the issue during her “Mañanera el Pueblo” program on March 24. She noted it was “very curious” that a legislator from Nuevo León would seek to govern another state, though she acknowledged that such a move was within legal rights. “He has the right, but it’s interesting,” she remarked. During the recent press conference, Colosio Riojas and Reyes de la Torre also announced a complaint filed against Sony with the National Antitrust Commission. This follows Sony’s announcement that it will stop producing physical games starting in 2028. The senator expressed concern over the implications of this shift for consumers and the gaming industry. Additionally, Colosio Riojas commented on the federal government’s initiative to regulate digital platforms and the use of artificial intelligence in education. He argued that outright bans would not improve educational outcomes. “Simply legislating or banning things won’t restructure the Mexican educational system in favor of students,” he said. Instead, he called for integrating technology into academic settings in a meaningful way. He pointed to statistical data showing a decline in academic performance in Mexico over the past decade, which he attributed partly to the rise of technological devices and social media. “We must recognize that this is a failure we couldn’t ignore as a school system,” he said, stressing the need for a more thoughtful approach to incorporating technology into classrooms.
