Nearly 900 workers at Ajax Casino and Pickering Casino Resort have begun striking after contract negotiations with their employer, Great Canadian Entertainment, collapsed. The union representing the workers, Unifor Local 1090, stated its members are determined to secure better terms through the strike action. Negotiations between Unifor Local 1090 and Great Canadian Entertainment stretched over several months before breaking down. According to the union, the bargaining unit encompasses a wide range of roles across both locations, including gaming floor staff, cashiers, food service workers, housekeepers, bus drivers, and those responsible for shipping and receiving. Unifor national president Lana Payne expressed support for the striking workers in a media advisory.
