The Ministry of Defence of the Republic of Croatia has announced the opening of a public tender for the recruitment of 300 soldiers and sailors, with service beginning on September 1, 2026. The announcement was made on Wednesday, according to a statement released by the ministry. The positions will be available in several locations across the country, including Benkovac, Bjelovar, Đakovo, Gašinci, Gospić, Karlovac, Lučko, Knin, Našice, Petrinja, Ploče, Pula, Sinj, Slunj, Split, Varaždin, Velika Gorica, Zagreb, and Zemunik Donji. The selection process for candidates will follow the requirements outlined based on their place of service. Applicants must meet specific criteria set forth in the Law on Service in the Armed Forces of the Republic of Croatia, particularly articles 34 and 35. These include having completed secondary education or completing primary education with the condition that they finish secondary education before the end of their first contract under the support of the Ministry of Defence. Candidates must be no older than 30 years by the end of 2026 and have successfully completed either voluntary military training or basic military training. Those who have previously left their service by personal request with honorable discharge, but without pension rights, can also apply if they are younger than 40 years old. In addition to these conditions, applicants must comply with the provisions of article 34.b of the Law and the conditions specified in point 3 of the Decision on Conditions and Procedure for Entering into an Indefinite Term Contract for Military Service (Official Gazette, No. 91/18). Applicants must submit documents proving Croatian citizenship, birth certificate, educational diploma or certificate, and a certificate confirming there is no ongoing criminal proceedings against them, which should not be older than six months. They must also provide their name, surname, address, email, and mobile number if possible. Applications can be submitted through an electronic form via the ministry's website at https://www.morh.hr/upitnik-za-prijam-u-dvs/. Those who fail to submit timely and proper applications or do not meet the conditions stated in the tender will not be considered as applicants. Before being accepted into active military service, candidates will undergo a selection process during which those who do not meet the requirements will be excluded based on official data from military records, results of psychological tests, medical examinations, and other checks required by regulations for entry into active military service. Candidates who have successfully completed the voluntary military training program must submit proof of meeting the conditions outlined in the tender to the Central Personnel Management Office at Ilica 256, 10000 Zagreb, or to the local defense affairs office depending on the candidate’s residence, no later than eight days after the publication of the tender in the Official Gazette. Candidates who have successfully completed the basic military training program must submit such proof by July 24, 2026. Information regarding the tender can be obtained through the ministry's website (www.morh.hr), by calling 01/3784-813 or 01/3784-814, or visiting local defense affairs offices. More information about the tender is available at the link: https://www.morh.hr/javni-natjecaj-za-prijam-vojnika-mornara-u-djelatnu-vojnu-sluzbu-2/. The ministry emphasized that all necessary documentation must be submitted properly and on time, as failure to do so would result in disqualification from the application process. The recruitment drive aims to ensure that only qualified individuals who meet both legal and physical standards are selected for service. The recruitment process includes multiple stages, starting with document submission and verification, followed by psychological assessments and medical evaluations. This ensures that only those who meet the strict criteria set by the law and the ministry are considered for inclusion in the armed forces. The ministry has also highlighted the importance of adhering to deadlines and procedures to avoid disqualification. Detailed guidelines and instructions are available online and through direct contact with the relevant offices. The recruitment drive underscores the ongoing efforts to maintain a well-trained and capable military force, ensuring readiness and operational capability in line with national security needs. Individuals interested in applying are encouraged to review the detailed requirements and submit their applications promptly. The deadline for submitting applications for those who have completed basic military training is clearly defined, providing a structured timeline for potential candidates to prepare and complete their submissions accordingly.
