Mitsubishi has announced the return of its iconic Pajero model after a five-year hiatus, unveiling a completely redesigned version of the long-standing SUV. The fifth-generation Pajero is set to debut in Thailand, where Mitsubishi Motors operates a key production facility, followed by launches in Japan and Australia later this year. A broader global rollout is planned for 2027, targeting approximately 100 countries, including notable markets such as the Middle East. In the United Arab Emirates, the vehicle will be distributed exclusively through Al Habtoor Motors, the Japanese automaker’s trusted partner in the region for over four decades. The new Pajero represents a substantial evolution from its predecessor, featuring increased size, enhanced luxury, and improved technological specifications. Measuring 4.92 meters in length and 1.93 meters in width, the vehicle has gained slightly in dimensions, with a longer wheelbase contributing to a more spacious interior. While sharing some foundational elements with Mitsubishi’s Triton pick-up, known as the L200 in the UAE, the Pajero has undergone extensive modifications to ensure a smoother, more refined driving experience. Powering the new model is a 2.4-liter turbo-diesel engine combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission, complemented by Mitsubishi’s four-wheel-drive system. This setup allows for greater versatility, especially in challenging off-road conditions. Drivers can engage the center and rear differentials manually to enhance traction on rough terrain. Additionally, the vehicle incorporates a revised suspension system along with added sound insulation and acoustic glass, resulting in a quieter and more comfortable cabin environment. The exterior design of the Pajero has been thoroughly refreshed, embodying the brand’s “Grand Charisma” concept. The updated styling is both clean and contemporary, yet it maintains recognizable Pajero elements. Front and rear lighting units feature a distinctive rectangular shape, while the positioning of the headlights has been adjusted inward to improve durability. One notable change is the relocation of the spare wheel, which is now housed beneath the vehicle rather than on the rear door, simplifying access to the boot. Inside, the transformation is equally impressive. The cabin offers expanded passenger space, with higher-grade materials used throughout, including a leather-trimmed dashboard. Standard equipment includes two 12.3-inch digital displays, with higher-tier models equipped with 14.3-inch screens. Despite these advancements, Mitsubishi has opted to retain physical controls for essential functions such as air conditioning and a traditional gear shifter, ensuring ease of use. Additional comfort features include wireless phone charging, heated and ventilated seating, and a 360-degree camera system. An off-road mode provides a detailed view of the ground ahead, aiding navigation on uneven surfaces. Premium versions of the Pajero come with optional enhancements such as a Yamaha audio system, three-zone climate control, and a panoramic sunroof. The cabin has also been optimized for greater headroom and legroom, with second-row seats capable of sliding forward and backward by up to 150 millimeters. These adjustments offer enhanced flexibility for passengers. The reintroduction of the Pajero signifies a significant milestone for Mitsubishi, marking the comeback of one of its most renowned nameplates following the discontinuation of the previous model in 2021.
