Voigt’s legal team has responded to the rejection of his appeal by announcing plans to file a lawsuit. His attorney stated that the outcome was not unexpected and emphasized unresolved legal questions concerning the criteria used to assess the validity of the revocation. A previously commissioned external expert had already concluded that the conditions for revoking the title were not met, according to the lawyer. Support for Voigt came from within his cabinet, particularly from Infrastructure Minister Steffen Schütz, who argued that the minister-president is entitled to a legally sound evaluation of the case. Schütz expressed doubts about whether the university’s decision could replace such a process. Social Minister Katharina Schenk noted that the government maintains a high level of trust in Voigt, though she acknowledged uncertainty over how the academic issue might affect his ability to govern effectively. AfD faction leader Björn Höcke called for Voigt’s resignation, accusing him of “concealment” and questioning why the public learned of the allegations so late. He accused Voigt’s legal representatives of withholding information since July 17th. Christian Schaft, head of the Left Party faction, criticized Voigt for damaging his credibility and warned that his future depends on how he handles the situation moving forward. In February, the AfD attempted to remove Voigt from office through a constructive vote of no confidence, but this effort failed. Later in May, the AfD released a paid expert report by communications scientist Stefan Weber, which purported to identify additional instances of plagiarism in Voigt’s work.
