Man arrested for attempted murder after backing van into 11-year-old boy on bike

A 44-year-old man was arrested in Moriguchi City, Osaka Prefecture, on suspicion of attempted murder after he backed his minivan into an 11-year-old boy cycling on a narrow local road. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. on Friday, according to TV Asahi. Construction worker Yohei Takimoto denied the allegations, claiming he did not intend to hit the child. Police stated that Takimoto honked his horn as the group of four elementary students passed his vehicle, then reversed to chase them and struck the back of the boy’s bicycle, causing the child to fall and sustain a minor head injury. Eyewitnesses and security camera footage indicated Takimoto accelerated in reverse to make contact. He surrendered to police two hours after the incident.
