Nigerian TikToker Nsikak Abigail, known online as Mirabel, has returned to social media after spending several months in a rehabilitation program following a false rape allegation. Her reappearance on TikTok on Saturday marked her first public engagement on the platform since the controversy erupted in February 2026. In one of her posts, Mirabel wrote, “I survived, so I’m awaiting your hate comments.” Another video posted included the caption, “Out of therapy but not healed,” indicating that while she has completed psychological treatment, she continues to grapple with personal challenges. She also shared a message stating, “Made peace with my mental health since rehab couldn’t help. Hi y’all.” A separate post included the statement, “We all make mistakes, but not a bisexual stud,” which some interpreted as a response to past criticisms. Mirabel first gained national attention in February 2026 when she posted a series of emotional videos detailing an alleged sexual assault. According to her account, the incident occurred on the morning of February 15, 2026, after she had been drinking due to insomnia. She claimed she opened her door believing the person outside was a neighbor, only to be pushed back by the intruder, resulting in her hitting her head on a refrigerator and losing consciousness. The alleged perpetrator, according to Mirabel, tied her up, gagged her, and committed sexual assault before fleeing. She further alleged that the attacker sent her messages afterward and that a blade had been inserted into her private area, causing her to bleed. Her story quickly spread across social media platforms, particularly TikTok, drawing millions of views and sparking intense public reaction. Celebrities, activists, and ordinary citizens expressed outrage and called for justice. Singer Simi was among those who responded publicly, while social media activist VeryDarkMan offered financial assistance, sending N100,000 to Mirabel after learning of her claims. Other individuals also reportedly contributed funds, though the exact total remains unclear. However, doubts soon emerged regarding the consistency of her narrative. Users began pointing out discrepancies in her account and questioning the validity of the evidence presented. The situation intensified when Mirabel admitted in a viral conversation with VeryDarkMan that the rape allegation was fabricated. She revealed that she had created the TikTok account supposedly used by the accused and confessed to being under the influence of drugs at the time of the incident. She also described experiencing panic attacks and engaging in self-harm, seeking help amid her distress. Following this admission, the Ogun State Police Command initiated an investigation, and Mirabel voluntarily reported to Ibafo Police Station. She was later transferred to the Ogijo police jurisdiction, where she underwent medical evaluation and received treatment. Initially, there were indications that she might face legal consequences for making a false accusation. However, by February 25, 2026, she was released to the Ogun State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development for care while the investigation continued. This shift in approach saw the focus move from potential prosecution to providing psychosocial support. In June, Ogun State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Oluwasina Ogungbade, confirmed that the investigation, along with Mirabel’s own statements, proved the rape claim was “false and deliberately fabricated.” The findings indicated that there was no suspect to arrest or charge, nor was there a threat to public safety stemming from the original allegation. As such, the state government opted for rehabilitation instead of prosecution, placing Mirabel under the care of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development. Mirabel’s recent posts suggest she has resumed public life, though she has not disclosed the date of her release from the rehabilitation facility or provided additional details about her recovery process.
