Similar concerns have emerged in Cebu, where civic and environmental organizations have requested Oslob town officials to disclose information about the proposed Oslob Sports and Cultural Center. In a letter dated July 9, the groups expressed alarm over plans to repurpose part of the town's public plaza and cut down century-old trees. They contend that the project threatens both historical landmarks and the ecological integrity of the area. Activists in Pangasinan and Cebu share common ground in opposing developments they view as environmentally harmful and socially unjust. Both campaigns reflect growing public awareness of the need to balance urban expansion with the protection of natural ecosystems. Local leaders in Pangasinan have yet to formally respond to the demands made by PPSE, while officials in Oslob continue to withhold key project documentation. The protests underscore a broader debate over how local governments should manage land use and infrastructure projects.
