On August 5, Alphabet Inc., Google’s parent company, unveiled a major restructuring of its AI division amid ongoing challenges in the competitive landscape of artificial intelligence. The changes included the departure of key executives from Google DeepMind, including AI chief Demis Hassabis, who stepped down from his primary managerial role. Hassabis, a Nobel laureate, will transition to the newly created position of Alphabet’s chief scientist and serve as chairman of DeepMind, according to internal memos shared with employees.
