The move was disclosed on July 27, as both companies confirmed the acquisition of a designated contract market and a derivatives clearing organization from BGC. This strategic purchase aims to enable Fanatics to launch a dedicated prediction market platform, leveraging the acquired entities to meet regulatory requirements and operational standards. The transaction involves the acquisition of two entities registered under the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC). These include Water Street Labs, LLC, which operates as a designated contract market, and CX Clearinghouse L.P., functioning as a derivatives clearing organization. While the financial terms of the deal remain undisclosed, the acquisition marks a significant step for Fanatics in expanding its presence within the prediction market space. Fanatics Markets, the company’s prediction markets division, was established in 2025. It offers users the ability to trade on a variety of sports-related outcomes, such as game winners, player milestones, and tournament champions. Currently, the platform is available in 23 U.S. states, including major markets like California, Texas, and Florida. With this new acquisition, Fanatics intends to further enhance and broaden its prediction market offerings, potentially reaching a wider audience and increasing its competitive edge in the sector.
