Two men were convicted of repeatedly raping a woman on a beach in Brighton, while a third man who filmed the assault was also sentenced to prison time. The incident occurred on October 4th last year, during a night out when the victim separated from her friend and was approached by the two men. They took her behind a cottage on the beach and subjected her to a brutal attack. A third man arrived shortly after and began recording the assault. During the trial at the Crown Court in Hove, the court heard that all three men had found the woman alone, in a helpless state, “wandering down the street.” The prosecution described the attack as “callous, predatory, and soulless.” The footage captured showed the woman falling twice during the assault. It also revealed that Ibrahim Alshafe, an Egyptian national aged 26, laughed and stuck his tongue out during the attack, while he also assaulted the victim. The video further depicted how the woman was treated with contempt throughout the ordeal. Alshafe and another Iranian national, Abdulla Ahmadi, both aged 26, were found guilty of two counts of rape. Despite denying the charges, they received life sentences. A third man, Karim Al-Danasurt, an Egyptian citizen aged 21, was convicted under four counts of rape as an accomplice for encouraging and filming the attack. He was given a sentence of 18 years and six months in prison. All three will serve additional six years under extended conditional release. In delivering the verdict, Judge Christine Henson KC condemned the actions of all three men, stating that each played a role in the woman’s humiliation. She emphasized that their behavior was “predatory and cruel,” leaving the woman in a deeply degraded state. The judge noted that the victims’ lives were irrevocably altered by the crime. A prosecutor, Hanna Llewellyn-Waters KC, characterized the perpetrators as individuals “devoid of humanity.” Their treatment of the woman was described as “utterly predatory, callous, and contemptuous.” The impact of the crime on the victim was deemed “extreme,” with the woman describing the nights as having destroyed her life. At the sentencing hearing, the victim read a statement detailing the lasting effects of the crime. She said the men had taken away parts of her life that could never be restored. She expressed anger over their lack of accountability, comparing it to being stabbed and turned back. She told the court that even after washing herself, she still felt dirty, and that the memory of the man laughing and filming her haunted her. During the trial, all three men used interpreters to deny the allegations. Alshafe and Ahmadi claimed the encounter was consensual, arguing that the woman had approached them voluntarily, touched them, and led them to the beach for sexual activity. Al-Danasurt, who claimed he was trying to stop the assault by filming, denied spitting into the woman’s mouth and called her a “dirty prostitute.” Prosecutors dismissed these claims as providing “clear and vivid insight” into the defendants’ warped thinking and complete absence of remorse. The men were known to each other and lived together in a hostel for asylum seekers near Horsham. The court learned that Ahmadi and Alshafe met on a small boat they used to arrive in the UK from France in June 2025. Al-Danasurt arrived in the country in October 2024. Following the ruling, British ministers announced that the convicted men would be deported after serving their sentences.
