Le 29 juin 2026, un débat politique organisé par le parti Alternative pour l'Allemagne (AfD) a eu lieu à Wesendorf dans le district de Gifhorn.

À la suite de l'événement, il y a eu des rapports d'altercations physiques dans l'hôtel où les participants ont séjourné. Alors que la police a confirmé que des blessures mutuelles se sont produites, ils ont déclaré que ces incidents ne pouvaient pas être directement attribués à des motivations politiques.
Le Bundestag s'attaque maintenant à ces questions par l'intermédiaire de son Conseil des aînés, composé de députés expérimentés et du président du Bundestag.
