After leaving Liverpool in 2023, he joined Saudi Arabian side Al-Ettifaq before moving to Ajax in January 2024. He returned to England last summer, playing 32 matches for Brentford. In a statement, Henderson expressed his enthusiasm for joining Chelsea, citing the club's size, manager Xabi Alonso, and the quality of the squad as key factors in his decision. “Considering the size of the club, the manager I really respect, and the quality of the players, this was an enormous opportunity I couldn’t refuse,” he said. “For me, it’s important to give everything every day, both on and off the pitch, to help the players around me and the team.” Henderson’s international career has also been notable. He became the first English player to appear in four World Cup tournaments, making his debut in the group stage against Panama as a substitute. That was his sole appearance in a tournament where England won the bronze medal. He has earned 91 caps for the national team. Chelsea has been active in the transfer market this summer, setting a new club record by spending £117 million (approximately €136.5 million) to bring in 23-year-old English midfielder Morgan Rogers from Aston Villa. Other recent arrivals include 35-year-old forward Danny Welbeck from Brighton, 22-year-old midfielder Valentin Barco from French club Strasbourg, and 23-year-old forward Emmanuel Emegha, who had previously joined from the same club. Defender Maxence Lacroix arrived from Crystal Palace, while right-back Marco Pallesi moved from Atalanta. Forward Geovany Quenda joined from Lisbon-based Sporting CP. In addition to these signings, Chelsea has invested in youth talent, bringing in 18-year-old left-back Denner from Brazilian club Corinthians and 17-year-old forward Dastan Satpaev from Kazakhstan’s Kairat.
