Two pedestrian bridges connecting Calzada San Antonio Abad with the floating garden in the Chabacano area of Tlalpan have been opened to the public, allowing pedestrians to access the elevated park. The structures, which include staircases located over José María Roa Bárcenas Street, are now operational and being used by residents and visitors. A second bridge near the intersection of Calzada San Antonio Abad and General Manuel Gutiérrez Nájera has also been put into service, enabling families and friends to move freely through the area. The opening of the bridges follows months of preparation. Since the inauguration of the floating garden on June 7, the staircase area had remained closed, with only metal frameworks installed. On July 15, reports indicated that the stairs were ready, though they were still under painting work on steps and railings, preventing public access. A local resident noted that the bridges were likely opened around Wednesday or Thursday, expressing frustration over the previous closure, which forced him to walk long distances to reach the park. The pedestrian pathways provide easier access to the popular recreational space, which has become a key attraction in the neighborhood. While the two bridges are fully functional, the ramp linking the site to the Chabacano metro station remains unfinished. Construction continues on this section, delaying its completion. Until the ramp is completed, visitors must rely on the existing bridges or alternative routes to reach the park. The floating garden, part of Mexico City’s ongoing urban renewal efforts, has drawn considerable attention since its launch. Located in the historic Chabacano district, the structure offers panoramic views of the city and serves as both a green space and a cultural landmark. Its accessibility has been a point of discussion among locals, especially after initial restrictions limited entry to certain areas.
