Land Niederösterreich has allocated more than 34 million euros in the first half of 2026 to support 74 regional projects under its Regionalförderung and LEADER programs. These initiatives are expected to trigger over 86 million euros in investments across the state’s regions. The funding includes projects such as the expansion of the Amethystwelt Maissau, the extension of the inter-municipal operating area in Wagram Land, and planning for new cycling route signage in the Wienerwald, Mostviertel, Wiener Alpen, and Donau Niederösterreich regions. The majority of these projects are funded through the European Union's LEADER program, which supported 45 projects during the period, adding approximately 1.3 million euros in EU funds to the state’s regional development efforts. Landeshauptfrau Johanna Mikl-Leitner emphasized the importance of local ideas in driving regional growth. She stated, “Niederösterreich lives off the strength of its regions. The people living there know best what their home needs. That is why we rely on their ideas and support them in implementing them.” The ecoplus regional funding program, established in 1987, continues to play a central role in supporting communities, regions, associations, and initiatives with economically significant local projects. According to ecoplus representatives, the projects aim to utilize regional resources effectively and promote value creation and employment within the areas they serve. Helmut Miernicki, managing director of ecoplus, and Bernhard Ebner, procurator, described the initiative as one that fosters sustainable regional development through community-driven solutions.
