While it is more prevalent in regions like East and Southeast Asia, North Africa, and the Arctic, it is exceedingly uncommon in the United States, with fewer than one case per 100,000 individuals annually. Since her diagnosis in February 2026, Burkins has received chemotherapy and radiation therapy. She is currently approaching the completion of her treatment and reports that her condition is improving. Doctors remain optimistic about her prognosis, indicating that the tumors are shrinking and responding positively to the interventions.
